November 10th, 2009Monkey malaria spreads to humans in South-east Asia
September 12th, 2009NEW DELHI:
Researchers in Malaysia have confirmed infections among humans with the Plasmodium knowlesi strain of malaria, which till now was
believed to only infect monkeys, in particular the long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques.
According to a study published in `Clinical Infectious Diseases’ journal, that examined the clinical and laboratory features of the strain, researchers Balbir Singh and Janet Cox-Singh of the University Malaysia Sarawak found that the malaria strain was widespread among humans in Malaysia and neighbouring countries.
India is keeping a close watch on the parasite springing up in the country. Though officials from the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme confirmed to TOI that there was no evidence of local transmission of malaria caused by Plasmodium knowlesi in India, flow of tourists between India and the affected countries like Malaysia and Indonesia could bring the infection here.

Credit and debt consolidation
August 18th, 2009This weekend, we went for a team outing. Two of my managers accompanied us. We discussed about many topics like sports, politics, business and the most important thing about managing our Finance. I would like to share some of the tips given by my managers about the various types of loans and debt consolidation techniques.
People in debt put away their minimum payments and thereby prolong their debts. Credit card companies have high interest rate for loans and high fee for services. Thus paying them on time is difficult for the majority. It becomes more and more difficult to pay credit card balance. And the most interesting thing, the debt consolidation can save us a lot of money including the interests when it is done in the correct way.
The credit consolidation can be done in two ways, getting a loan for our credit card debt or transferring the money to one card. If planned correctly, we can easily overcome this situation.
In the case of payday loan consolidation, the payday loans can be consolidated through a home equity Loan or even a personal loan. Thus it saves us from the interest in taking the next payday loan.
The most important point here is to save money instead of getting loans for repaying a loan. According to me, “A penny saved today is two tomorrow “. We should not give away our “Hard earned money” as interests which can be very well controlled by proper planning.
The ultimate moral of this post is “Be Smart in planning your financial debts and live a debt free life”

The Best for the Eye
June 29th, 2009An eyeglass prescription is a written order by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, orthoptist or an optician for eyeglasses. It specifies the refractive power to which the eyeglasses are to be made in order to correct blurred vision due to refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. It is typically determined using a phoropter, automated refractor, or through the technique of retinoscopy.Glasses (also called eyeglasses or spectacles) are frames bearing lenses worn in front of the eyes, normally for vision correction, eye protection, or for protection from UV rays.
Eyeglass frames are commonly made from metal or plastic. Lenses were originally made from glass, but many are now made from various types of plastic, including CR-39 and polycarbonate. These materials reduce the danger of breakage and weigh less than glass lenses. Some plastics also have more advantageous optical properties than glass, such as better transmission of visible light and greater absorption of ultraviolet light. There are many types of Eyewear. But the Prescription Sunglasses must be confirmed by an ophthalmologist. The other typeof Sunglasses can be used according to the surroundings and our style.
Sunglasses may be made with either prescription or non-prescription lenses that are darkened to provide protection against bright visible light and, possibly, ultraviolet (UV) light. Photochromic lenses, which are photosensitive, darken when struck by UV light.
The eyeglasses are of many type like Corrective, Safety, Sunglasses, 3D Glasses, Reading Glasses. Bifocals, trifocals, progressive lenses and Extreme Magnification(Bioptics).

Nokia N86 Starts Shipping
June 11th, 2009Nokia’s 8 MP N86 announced at the MWC at Barcelona earlier this year has started shipping globally.
The device features variable aperture, which results in vibrant photos even in challenging bright and low-light conditions. The fast mechanical shutter and Automatic Motion Blur Reduction ensure shorter latencies and less motion blur.
Processing times between pictures have been more than halved in comparison with many other camera phones.
The Nokia N86 8MP camera includes a wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens for panoramic pictures, shorter latencies and variable aperture for super sharp photos in challenging bright and low light conditions. A fast mechanical shutter will help ensure pictures with less motion blur. What could be construed as a disappointment would be the presence of a dual LED camera flash instead of a Xenon.
The handset features -
* 2.6 inch OLED, scratch resistant hardened glass display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution
* Dual Slider
* 8GB of internal memory (microSD card support)
* HSDPA, Wi-Fi, EDGE
* Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro)
* GPS with A-GPS support (Nokia Maps)
* FM radio with RDS and FM transmitter feature
* 3.5mm AV socket
* Rear kickstand
FaceBOOK!BEWARE
May 27th, 2009Have you been hit like millions of Facebook users by a new phishing scam that can result in crashing your computers or mobile phones and steal your passwords? If not, beware, do not open the files ending with ‘.at’ or ‘.be.’
The phishing scam is being run through the spam messages which steals the sensitive information of the Facebook users. In the attack, the messages are circulated with a subject line of ‘Hello’ and a prompt to check out areps.at or other URLs ending in ‘.at.’
The mails with the subject line Look at This and links like — goldbase.be, greenbuddy.be, silvertag.be, picoband.be — leads to some malicious Web sites, which if visited, could secretly download malware onto computers through a drive-by download application.
The URL connectivity, before being blocked directs the visitor to a fake Facebook page and the mail ID and password are stolen as soon as it is logged-in again.
According to the All Facebook blog.Facebook, the password in such cases should be changed immediately and the same message should be sent across to one’s Facebook acquaintance.
‘Whoever is behind the scam has been steadily amassing a large number of e-mail addresses and passwords over the past few weeks,’ the blog says.Though, Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said: ‘The impact of this attack or the previous ones are not widespread and only impacted a tiny fraction of a per cent of users.
‘We’ve been updating our monitoring systems with information gleaned from the previous attacks so that each new attack is detected more quickly,’ he said.
The site has blocked links to the new phishing sites from being shared on Facebook and has added them to the block lists of the major browsers.
The social networking site is working with partners to have the sites taken down completely, he said adding Facebook is also cleaning up phony messages and wall posts and resetting the passwords of affected users.
‘We believe the bad guys here are phishing an account and then trying those credentials on webmail providers,’ Schnitt said.
So, for example, if a user is compromised on Facebook and has the same login and ID password for their Gmail, the attacker may be able to intercept the Facebook password reset and compromise the account again in the future, he added.
Microsoft’s layoff email to employees
May 10th, 2009below is the copy of Mail sent by the CEO of Microsoft

Subject: Update: Realigning Resources and Reducing Costs
In January, in response to the global economic downturn, I announced our plan to adjust the company’s cost structure through spending reductions and job eliminations. Today, we are implementing the second phase of this plan.
This is difficult news to share. Because our success at Microsoft has always been the direct result of the talent, hard work, and commitment of our people, eliminating positions is hard.
Today’s action includes positions in the United States and in a number of countries around the world. In the US, affected employees will be notified directly by their managers today. In other countries, local leadership teams will provide more specific information about the impact to their organizations.
With this announcement, we are mostly but not all done with the planned 5,000 job eliminations by June 2010. We are moving quickly to reach this target in response to consistent feedback from our people and business groups that it’s important to make decisions and reduce uncertainty for employees as quickly as possible, and so that organizations can concentrate their efforts and resources on strategic objectives.
As we move forward, we will continue to closely monitor the impact of the economic downturn on the company and if necessary, take further actions on our cost structure including additional job eliminations.
For those of you directly affected by today’s announcement, I want to thank you for your contribution to Microsoft and assure you that we will continue to provide support as we did during the previous job eliminations.
And for everyone across the company, I want to reemphasize how much I appreciate the way you have pulled together to help the company respond to this difficult economic environment. There’s no doubt that these are very challenging times. But together, we are making the right choices to ensure that we will continue to deliver great products and position ourselves for strong future growth and profitability.
Thank you for your continued hard work, commitment, and focus.
Steve
